IN/OUT IN

Interactive installation, 2005 Ekmel Ertan, Aylin Kalem

The installation is designed with the idea of corresponding the mind’s activities with the concepts of inside/outside through spatial parameters.

An inner wall of home covered with a wallpaper. When spectator get close to the wall, a frame in the wallpaper become transparent which shows behind the wall and the spectator start hearing the domestic sounds of household; the child, the running water, the TV, the washing machine... When the spectator moves away, the wallpaper covers back the frame and the outside sound is heard. The sound is used as a tool that represents the activities of the mind which also creates such situation. This installation is about inside and outside of the walls. The walls which defines in and out, puts borders between public and private; splits up the mind.

In/Out In created for the exhibition “Tele City” at Siemens Art Gallery – Istanbul, January-February 2005
